A MAN has been shot dead by police at a home south west of Brisbane after allegedly holding children hostage while armed with a samurai sword.
The incident unfolded at the Doolandella home around 5.30am Monday morning.
Queensland Police have confirmed they were called to the home on Cassowary Street to help Queensland Ambulance officers who were originally called to the scene.

On arrival things quickly turned into a siege situation with four children and two adult females also inside the home.
“The attending police successfully negotiated and had the children and females released form the house,” Inspector Tim Partridge said.
“Immediately following their release, a male person has run at general duties police officers.
“He was fatally shot outside the front of the premise.
“The attending police are now undergoing interviews and Ethical Standards Command have taken over the investigation.”
Police say “multiple shots” were fired by a well-experience officer.
Cassowary Street remains closed off as investigations continue.
