Man arrested after helicopter pilot spots him allegedly lighting fires

A MAN has been arrested after a helicopter pilot allegedly spotted him lighting fires in Queensland’s Whitsundays.

Around 3.00pm on Wednesday, police were called to Conway Road in Palm Grove by the pilot who had observed a man allegedly lighting blazes near Cedar Creek Falls.

When police located the man, he allegedly rammed their car with his vehicle, forcing police to shoot at it.

The man was then taken into custody before being transported to Proserpine Hospital for treatment of injuries he sustained during the collision.

Two officers were also hospitalised for minor injuries.

A crime scene has since been declared, with the matter being investigated by the Ethical Standards Command, with oversight from the Crime and Corruption Commission.
