Man charged after several cars torched in Surfers Paradise

A man has been charged after a number of cars were allegedly set alight in Surfers Paradise.

At least five cars were set alight within a one-kilometre radius in the suburb on Tuesday night.

Emergency services were first called to Hamilton Ave just after 10.30pm after two cars had allegedly been set alight.

There are reports the offender set the first car had its tail lights set on fire before the blaze spread to the rest of the vehicle.

Another car was reportedly torched in neighbouring Vista St a short time later.

Police and QFES were then called to River Terrace where another two cars had allegedly been torched.

A 33-year-old Ormeau man was located nearby a short time later and taken into custody.

He has been charged with five counts of wilful damage and one of breaching bail.

The man is due to front Southport Magistrates Court today.
