Man arrested after sparking Gold Coast high school lockdown

A man has been arrested on the northern Gold Coast after leading police on a chase that briefly forced a high school into lockdown.

A vehicle was allegedly spotted driving erratically in Oxenford around 8am on Friday, with officers tracking the car to Pacific Pines.

The man is then alleged to have dumped the vehicle on Hotham Street before running from the scene, forcing nearby Pacific Pines State High School into a “precautionary lockdown”.

The school took to social media to advise parents of the unfolding situation.

“Please be advised we are currently in a precautionary lockdown… We will keep you updated,” the post said.

The man police were looking for was later tracked down and arrested along Pitcairn Way.

He’s been taken to hospital under police guard.

The school has since confirmed the lockdown has been lifted.

“Lockdown over. All students and staff are safe. We thank everyone involved for keeping our community safe.”
