Man arrested over ‘axe attack’ at Melbourne train station

TWO protective service officers have allegedly been attacked with an axe at a train station in Melbourne’s south-east.

It’s understood the guards were assaulted by a man at Dandenong train station just before 3.30am on Sunday.

The man allegedly attempted to run away but the train guards gave chase, during which the man allegedly hurled an axe at them.

Police were called in to help the PSO’s catch the man, who was detained and taken into police custody on nearby Walker Street.

The two protective service officers were treated by paramedics at the scene for what police said were “minor injuries”.

The man, believed to be a 36-year-old local, was this morning assisting police with their inquiries.
