A man has been arrested following a counter-terrorism operation in Melbourne’s north west.
The Australian Federal Police confirmed the arrest in a statement on Friday morning.
“The Victorian Joint Counter Terrorism Team (JCTT) can confirm it conducted operational activity in northwestern Melbourne today,” the statement read.

“A man has been arrested, and is currently assisting police with inquiries.”
There are reports the arrest was made in connection to an alleged plot by five men to flee to Syria in a boat to join and fight for Islamic State.
The AFP stressed the activity “is not related to a current or impending threat to the community”.
“As this activity remains ongoing, it is not appropriate to provide further comment.”
