Man arrested after domestic violence-related siege in NSW

A MAN has been arrested, charged and refused bail following a tense domestic violence-related siege at a house in Newcastle.

Police say they were called to a home on Macquarie Street at Wallsend around 11.50am on Saturday after a man allegedly refused to leave the premises.

Officers from Newcastle City Local Area Command attended and spoke to a 42-year-old man who allegedly became aggressive towards them and started making threats.

The man refused to leave and allegedly barricaded himself inside the house.

Police established a perimeter around the home call in reinforcements to help coax the man into surrendering.

He was eventually arrested around 5.30pm and taken to Waratah Police Station where he was charged with destroy or damage property (DV) and served with an AVO.

He was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court today.
