Man arrested after making threats with gun on northern Gold Coast

UPDATE @ November 28, 6.30am: A MAN has been charged after he allegedly made threats towards a number of people while armed with a gun, before leading police on a chase on the northern Gold Coast on Monday.

Police said that around 10.30am, the man attended a Meadowbank Drive home in Upper Coomera and made threats towards a woman known to him.

A 67-year-old male neighbour ran to the woman’s aid and attempted to disarm the man, however a short struggle ensued.

The man then took off in the woman’s car and drove to a home in Nerang before he fled the scene again.

“A short time later police received a report of a car allegedly stolen by a man armed with a firearm on Guy Court at Oxenford,” police said in a statement.

It is alleged he approached the 18-year-old female driver of the vehicle and threatened her and a 16-year-old male passenger with the firearm.

The woman and boy managed to escape the car before the man drove away in the vehicle.

The man then sped through Oxenford before police managed to deploy a tyre deflation device and the man was taken into custody on Tambourine-Oxenford Road around 11.30am.

A 21-year-old Upper Coomera man has since been charged with two counts of dangerous operation of a vehicle and fail to stop motor vehicle, and one count each of armed robbery, unlawful possession of weapons, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, driving unlicensed and going armed so as to cause fear.
