Man arrested after man bashed with bat, set on fire in NSW home

A MAN has been punched to the ground, bashed with a baseball bat and set on fire in a shocking attack at a home near Newcastle.

Police said the 43-year-old victim was at a house on Bluegum Close in Stockrington with another 43-year-old man and a woman around 1.30am on Friday when he was attacked.

It’s alleged the second 43-year-old man punched the victim in the face, causing him to fall to the ground.


As he lay on the ground, police said the victim was struck across the back and legs with a baseball bat before being set in fire.

Police said the injured man attended Belmont Hospital around 5am where he was treated for broken ribs bruising to his eye and burns. He remains there in a stable condition.

After attending the hospital and speaking the with victim, detectives attended house on Bluegum Close and arrested the 43-year-old man.

He was taken to Maitland Police Station and charged with recklessly cause grievous bodily harm in company, actual bodily harm in company and possess prohibited weapon.

The man was bail refused to attend Maitland Local Court tomorrow, Monday 24 October.

Investigations into the incident are continuing.
