Man arrested over 1976 cold case murder

Police have charged a man over the cold case murder of murder of a man in a Brisbane hotel in 1976.

The body of Rex Keen was found by cleaners in a room at the Lennon’s Plaza Hotel.

He’d been stabbed and beaten to death.

Mr Keen was living in Bowen at the time but was in Brisbane for a medical appointment.

The Homicide Group’s Cold Case Investigation Team began re-examining the case 18 months ago, interviewing several witnesses and looking into new information they received.

A thorough review of forensic evidence was also undertaken.

Police today arrested a 69-year-old man in Bundaberg, charging him with one count of murder.

He’s due to appear in the Bundaberg Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
