Man wanted over gunpoint sex attack arrested after police pursuit

A man who allegedly sexually assaulted a woman at gunpoint at a motel in Sydney’s CBD last week has been arrested following a pursuit through Bondi today.

Police allege the man sexually assaulted and robbed a 22-year-old woman in a Park Street motel room around 6am on Sunday 19 June.

The man was allegedly armed with a firearm during the assault.

Police were called but despite conducting a thorough search of the area, could not locate the offender.

Following extensive investigations, officers attempted to intercept a silver Ford sedan on Bondi Road at Bondi just after 11.30am today, however the driver allegedly failed to stop.

Police pursued the vehicle which, a short time later, travelled through a park and crashed into a parked car on Old South Head Road.

The driver, a 26-year-old man, was arrested and taken to Waverley Police Station before being transported to St Vincent’s Hospital under police guard.

Police say charges are expected to be laid as their investigations continue.
