Man arrested in Tonga after woman stabbed to death in Sydney

A man has been arrested in Tonga and extradited to NSW over the alleged stabbing murder of a woman in Double Bay in 1990.

The 49-year-old was arrested earlier this week following investigations into the deaths of brother and sister, Dr Michael Chye and Rita Caleo.

Police said Doctor Chye, 36, was shot three times as he drove into his garage at Woollahra on 16 October 1989.

His sister, Rita Caleo, 39, was stabbed a number of times in her home at Double Bay on 10 August 1990 and also died.

Two men remain before the court after being arrested by detectives in 2014 and 2015.

The third man arrived at Sydney International Airport just after 10am this morning and was taken to Surry Hills Police Station, where he is expected to be formally charged with murder.

There are no further details available at this time.
