Man attacked with chainsaw during terrifying break and enter in Sydney

A MAN is in hospital after allegedly being attacked with a chainsaw after three men stormed into his apartment in Annandale yesterday.

Police said the shocking attack happened about 5.30pm, when the trio entered the unit on Albion Lane through an open front door.

“A 63-year-old occupant and his wife were at home at the time and confronted the three men asking what they were doing,” police said.


“A scuffle ensured and the occupant chased the three men out of the unit downstairs into the laneway where one of the men ran to a nearby garage and grabbed an electric chainsaw.”

Police said the 63-year-old man was assaulted with the tool before the trio ran off towards Johnston Street.

Two of the men were located by police in a nearby hotel a short time later.

They were taken to Newtown Police Station where a 21-year-old man was charged with Aggravated enter dwelling with intent, Assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company, Use offensive weapon with intent to commit indictable offence, Common assault.

The second man, aged 20, was charged with Aggravated enter dwelling with intent, and Common assault.

Investigations continue into the whereabouts of the third man.

The 63-year-old man remains in Royal Prince Alfred Hospital receiving treatment for a laceration to his head.
