Man banned from driving for 30 years busted behind wheel in NSW

A man who has been banned from driving for over 30 years will face court next week after he was allegedly detected driving a car whilst disqualified.

About 2am today, police from Lake Macquarie Local Area Command were conducting patrols as part of Operation Slow Down, when they stopped a vehicle on Lake Road, Argenton.

The male driver was submitted to a roadside breath test, which returned a negative result.

Checks on the man’s licence revealed he is disqualified from driving until 2047.

The 22-year-old man was arrested and taken to Toronto Police Station where he was charged with drive whilst disqualified as well as an outstanding warrant.

He was granted conditional bail to appear in Toronto Local Court on Wednesday 7 October 2015.

Operation Slow Down, the state’s October long weekend road safety campaign will continue until 11.59pm on Monday 5 October 2015.

Double demerits will be in place over the entire long weekend for all speeding, seatbelt and motorcycle-helmet offences.
