A man has been busted almost 4x over the legal alcohol limit after he was spotted driving down a footpath at Kingscliff overnight, leaving a trail of destruction in the process.
Around 6.30pm, witnesses observed a man driving a Ford Focus along the beachside pathway that’s shared by cyclists and pedestrians.
The driver, aged 65, had allegedly crashed into a number of signs and railings that were fixed along the path.

Police were called to the scene and arrested the man after he returned a positive breath test.
He was taken to Kingscliff Police Station where he allegedly returned a breath analysis reading of 0.198, which is almost 4x the legal alcohol limit.
His licence was suspended and he was charged with high-range drink driving to face court on Monday 9 January 2017.
