A UK national has been busted trying to import two kilograms of cocaine into Australia.
The 59-year-old was taken into custody on Monday morning after Australian Border Force officers selected him for a baggage examination after he arrived on a flight from Thailand.
“The ABF will allege the man’s suitcase was unusually heavy after its contents were emptied. Further physical examination and x-ray screening identified anomalies in the suitcase,” Australian Federal Police said in a statement.

“ABF officers partially deconstructed the bag, revealing a white powdery substance concealed within the lining.
“The substance was subjected to a series of presumptive tests, which returned positive results for cocaine.”
The man was arrested at the scene by Australian Federal Police and charged with import a commercial quantity of a border controlled drug and possession of a controlled drug, which carry a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.
He is due to appear in Sydney Central Local Court today.
