Man caught stealing electricity to grow cannabis crop inside Sydney home

A YOUNG man has been charged with stealing electricity to help grow more than 100 cannabis plants found inside a house during a raid in Sydney’s southwest.

Detectives investigating the illicit drug activities in the Green Valley district as part of Strike Force Budge raided the Matthew Avenue home at Heckenberg just before 9.30am on Thursday.

With assistance from the Public Order and Riot Squad, officers stormed the house and allegedly found a sophisticated hydroponic system setup within eight rooms.

Police allegedly seized over 100 cannabis plants from the address with an estimated street value of around $367,000.

Also seized from the home were lamp shades, globes, transformers, extraction fans, a personal computer, and a CCTV hard drive.

A 20-year-old man was arrested at the house and taken to Green Valley Police Station where he was charged with cultivate prohibited plant and use electricity without authority.
