Man charged after allegedly holding up Ormeau store with gun

A man has been charged over the alleged armed robbery of a convenience store at Ormeau.

The 20-year-old is alleged to have threatened a store employee with a firearm at the business on Eggesdorf Rd at around 1am on Wednesday.

The employee hid in a back office before the man left, taking a grocery item with him.

Police last night raided a home in Ormeau, allegedly locating a sawn-off shotgun (pictured below) and some ammunition.

A 20-year-old man was arrested and has since been charged with armed robbery, possession of a category H weapon and possession of explosives (ammunition).

He’s due to front Southport Magistrates Court today.

Detective Inspector Brendan Smith from Gold Coast CIB said it was a great result for the community.

“A person whose actions put the safety of innocent people at risk is now off the street, as is a dangerous weapon,” Detective Inspector Smith said.
