Man charged after body located near Murwillumbah

A man has been charged with murder, after the body of a woman was found near Murwillumbah.

Tweed Byron Crime Manager Detective Inspector Brendan Cullen told the Northern Star that officers arrested the 61 year old from Tomewin, about 10km north of Murwillumbah, last night.

The body of the 53-year-old woman was found by someone in a home on Tomewin Rd at about 2pm on Saturday.  Police were notified and a crime scene set up to investigate.

Several people have been questioned, including some who lived in the house where the body was located.

Det Insp Cullen told the Northern Star police will allege the man was known to the woman and he was living with her when she died.

He declined to comment on how the woman died or any motive behind her death.

The man was refused bail and will appear at Tweed Heads Local Court this morning.
