Man charged after dog allegedly stabbed to death in backyard

A MAN has been charged over the horrific death of a dog in NSW.

Just after 5pm yesterday, police rushed to a home on Cossa Street at West Tamworth after receiving reports a dog had been stabbed in the backyard.

The resident of the home, a 36-year-old woman, took the female dog to a nearby animal hospital, however sadly it could not be saved and died a short time later.

Patrolling police arrested a 25-year-old man nearby and transported him to Tamworth Police Station.

The man, who is known to the woman, has since been charged with torture, beat and cause death of animal and contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (domestic).

He was refused bail to appear before Tamworth Bail Court today.
