Man charged after dramatic crash shuts down part of M1

A MAN has been charged over a stolen car crash which shut down part of the Pacific Motorway at Underwood overnight.

Police say a stolen Mitsubishi Lancer was spotted by the police chopper travelling through the Logan area around 11.00pm.

It’s understood the vehicle was then allegedly sighted driving at “excessive speeds” northbound on the Gateway Motorway before it crashed into another car on the M1, near the Underwood Road overpass.

Two men allegedly tried to flee the scene but were taken into custody by a passing officer on a motorbike.

The crash forced the northbound lanes of the highway closed for several hours.

A 35-year-old man has since been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and stealing.

He is due to appear at the Brisbane Magistrates Court on October 8.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
