Man charged after dramatic police chase at Palm Beach

A MAN will front Southport Court today after leading police on a dramatic chase through Palm Beach park and Currumbin Creek yesterday.

At around 3.30pm police attended Pirate Park on Thrower Avenue to speak to the man who allegedly had a warrant out for his arrest.

When the man spotted police, he started to run away before jumping into Currumbin Creek and attempting to swim across.

Officers were forced to use a lifeguard jet ski to catch him, managing to nab him half an hour later.

A 38-year-old man was charged with one count of assault or obstruct police and is scheduled to appear before the Southport Magistrates Court today.
