Man charged after dramatic police chase through Coomera

A man has spent the night behind bars after leading police on a dramatic chase through the streets of Coomera.

It’s understood officers spotted the man driving the allegedly stolen car around 5.15pm on Tuesday and tried to intercept the vehicle.

Police allege the man sped off and could only be stopped when police deployed tyre deflation devices along Foxwell Road.

It’s further alleged the driver refused to exit the vehicle once stopped, so the police dog was sent in to drag him out.

A search of the vehicle allegedly uncovered several weapons, including guns.

A 33-year-old Southport man has been charged with a range of offences including assaulting police, possessing dangerous drugs, the unlawful use of a motor vehicle and carrying a weapon in a public place.

He is expected to face Southport Magistrates Court today.
