Man charged after elderly woman robbed of pokie winnings

A MAN has been charged after allegedly robbing an elderly lady of her pokie winnings in Tugun last month.

It is alleged the 75-year-old woman was walking home from a pub on Golden Four Drive around 5.30pm on May 19 after winning big on the pokies.

She was followed by a 30-year-old man from Currumbin who, when at Elisabeth Street, snatched her handbag from her shoulder.

The woman fell to the ground and received laceration to her elbows during the incident.

A passerby chased down the culprit and retrieved the handbag, though the money had already been removed.

Her attacker was arrested this morning and charged with robbery and two counts each of stealing and fraud.

He is due to face Southport Magistrates Court on Thursday.
