Man charged after fleeing the scene of two crashes

POLICE have charged a 42-year-old man over two accidents in Surfers Paradise on Saturday that ended with a physical altercation with a taxi driver.

Police allege that around 2.45pm, the man was driving a vehicle towing a trailer on Old Burleigh Road when he collided with another vehicle and drove off.

He continued driving, where he then collided again, this time with a taxi and failed to stop.

The taxi driver followed the vehicle to Armrick Avenue, Broadbeach, where he treid to get the driver details.

It’s understood the driver then started a physical argument with him.

Police arrived a short while later and apprehended the man.

Nobody sustained any injuries.

The 42-year-old was charged with one count of assault, drink driving, driving without a license, driving an unregistered vehicle and contravene direction or requirement.

He is scheduled to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on Monday.
