Man charged after Gold Coast woman hit by mobility scooter

A man has been charged after allegedly running down a Gold Coast woman with his mobility scooter before fleeing the scene.

The incident happened near Beenleigh train station on the afternoon of September 1.

A 62-year-old Ormeau woman was walking on the footpath on Alamein St at around 4.20pm when she was allegedly hit from behind by the man on the scooter.

Police allege the man did not stop after the incident and rode off.

The woman was helped by members of the public before being taken to the PA Hospital in Brisbane with serious hip, arm and neck injuries.

Police have since charged a 52-year-old Beenleigh man with dangerous operation of a vehicle causing grievous bodily harm and possess utensils.

He’ll front Beenleigh Magistrates Court on November 3.

Police are now appealing for any witnesses to the incident, especially the members of the public who came to the woman’s aid.
