“Officers obviously used their use of force options that were available to them and called on the male to drop the knife and luckily he did,” Acting Chief Superintendent Rhys Wildman told the ABC.

The 20-year-old Coombabah man was then taken into custody.

He has since been charged with possessing a knife in a public place and will front Southport Magistrates Court on April 8.

No one was injured during the incident.
