Man charged after throwing tiles at police from rooftop

A man will appear in court today, charged after a stand-off with police, where he stood on a roof and threw tiles at them.

About 3pm yesterday, Wednesday 4 November 2015, a 34-year-old man attended Wodonga Police Station.

Police became concerned about his behaviour and arrested him, before taking him to Albury Base Hospital for assessment.

It’s alleged whilst speaking with nursing staff; the man broke free and ran to Bilba Street.

There, he climbed on top of a unit block, and allegedly began throwing roof tiles toward officers and their vehicles. He also allegedly threw tiles at a passing car and another vehicle parked in the street.

After two hours of negotiation, police managed to get the man to come down.

The man was arrested and taken to Albury Police Station, where he was charged with throw projectile at police (x2), malicious damage (x4), enter inclosed lands, and use weapon to avoid apprehension.

He was refused bail to appear before Albury Local Court today (Thursday 5 November 2015).
