Man charged after woman allegedly raped in Gold Coast park

A man is due to appear in court today charged over the alleged rape of a woman on the Gold Coast.

The alleged attack happened at a park off Cavill Avenue in Surfers Paradise just before 6.00am on Wednesday.

Police rushed to the scene after being alerted to the incident and arrested a 20-year-old man.


He has been charged with one count of rape and one count of assault with intent to commit rape.

A Queensland Police spokesperson told myGC the assault is believed to have been random.

“It appears they were not known to each other,” the police spokesperson said.

They also confirmed that earlier reports of the victim being homeless were not true.

The man, from Southport, is due to face Southport Magistrates Court today.
