Man charged over alleged sexual assault of a young child in the Snowy Mountains

A man will face court today charged over the alleged sexual assault of a young girl in the Snowy Mountains.

Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Child Abuse Squad recently commenced an investigation following reports a young girl was sexually assaulted in 2014 by a man known to her.

Following extensive inquiries, detectives arrested a 51-year-old man at Cooma Police Station on Wednesday.

The man was charged with sexual assault of child aged between 10 and 14.

Police will allege in court the man sexually assaulted the girl, then aged 10, when visiting her family in 2014.

He was refused bail to appear at Queanbeyan Local Court later today.
