A MAN has been charged with animal cruelty after he allegedly bludgeoned a kookaburra to death at a popular holiday spot in NSW last month.
The 32-year-old is accused of belting the bird with an aluminium chair at a licensed premises in Soldiers Point, at Port Stephens, on Tuesday, July 18.
Defenceless and on the ground, the man then allegedly kicked the kookaburra to death.

Following an investigation, officers attended a house in Anna Bay where they spoke with the 32-year-old.
He was today issued a court attendance notice for aggravated cruelty to animals.
The man is due to front Raymond Terrace Local Court on Monday, October 16.
