Man charged with arson over multi-million dollar Logan shopping centre fire

A MAN has been charged with arson over a multi-million dollar fire at a Rochedale South shopping centre.

Fourteen businesses were destroyed in the large blaze, which broke out shortly after midnight on September 18.

Following a protracted police investigation, code named Operation Papa Yellowstone, Logan detectives arrested a 26-year-old Calamvale man.

The man has since been charged with arson in relation to the shopping centre fire as well as an additional count of arson and attempted fraud in relation to the alleged arson of a motor vehicle at Beenleigh on August 18.

A 21-year-old Calamvale woman has also been charged with arson and attempted fraud in relation to the vehicle, as well as possession of dangerous drugs and possession of a drug utensil.

Both are due to appear in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court this morning.

Investigations into the arson at the shopping centre are continuing.
