Man charged with attempted murder of relative in NSW

A man is due to face court today charged with the attempted murder of a relative in the Lake Macquarie region.

Police were called to a home in Mount Hutton on Monday night following reports of a break and enter and assault.

It’s alleged a 54-year-old man used a hammer to smash through a glass door into the house, before assaulting the homeowner.

He was arrested at the scene and taken to Belmont Police Station where he was charged with attempted murder and aggravated break and enter.

The homeowner was taken to John Hunter Hospital with suspected skull fractures and other injuries, which police say are not considered to be life threatening.
