A man has been charged over the brutal assault of another man during a local football match in Cairns.
The vicious attack, which left a man with a broken jaw, occurred during an Australian Rules football fixture played at Bentley Park on the afternoon of June 10.
“It will be alleged that after being tackled by a 21-year-old player from the opposing team, the 35-year-old man approached the younger player and punched him to the head,” Qld Police said in a statement.

The younger man was rushed to hospital where he underwent surgery for a broken jaw.
Following investigations, police arrested the 35-year-old man yesterday.
He was charged with grievous bodily harm and is expected to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on July 12.
