Man charged after car stolen north of the Gold Coast

A man’s been charged after a car was stolen from Logan, north of the Gold Coast, early on Sunday.

It will be alleged just after midnight police were driving on Wembley Road, Logan Central when they were flagged down by a member of the public who stated their car had been just stolen by a man. Police could see the car further down Wembley road and followed the vehicle indicating for it to stop.

The man stopped the vehicle and ran into a private business yard where he allegedly stole a ute. The ute collided with the police vehicle before crashing through a boom gate to exit the business premises. The ute entered the Logan Motorway travelling east and exited at Loganlea Road travelling to the wrong side of the road. At this time police stopped following the ute.

At about 1am on Sunday the ute was located abandoned at an educational facility at Nathan and the man was located a short time later by a police dog unit nearby.

A 21-year-old Bellbird Park man has been charged with two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and one count each of dangerous operation a vehicle, fail to stop motor vehicle, unlicensed driving, wilful damage and enter premises and commit indictable offence.

He is expected to appear at the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Monday, June 20.
