Man charged following dramatic police pursuit in stolen vehicle

Police have charged a man following a pursuit in Villawood yesterday.

About 2.25pm (Monday 8 September 2015), police were patrolling in Villawood when they came across a parked, confirmed stolen, black Toyota Camry.

While officers were in the process of organising a tow for the vehicle, a man and women got into the car and started to drive away.

Officers activated lights and sirens and attempted to stop the car but it continued travelling in an erratic matter.

The pursuit was terminated and the vehicle was last seen turning into Lowana Street, Villawood where it was seen to turn into a driveway.

Police pulled their vehicle across the driveway in an attempt to stop the car leaving, but the Camry allegedly reversed down the driveway and into the police car.

Officers will alleged the car continued driving along the footpath where it hit a second police vehicle, and a parked car, before stopping in Derribong Street where the occupants attempted to run from police.

The pair were arrested after a short foot pursuit and taken to Bankstown Police Station where they were interviewed.

As a result, the 27-year-old man was charged with a string of offences including police pursuit, possesses prohibited drug, goods in custody, take and drive conveyance without consent, possess house breaking implements and drive while disqualified.

He was refused bail and will appear in Bankstown Local Court today (Tuesday 9 September 2015).

The 23-year-old woman was released pending further inquiries.
