Man charged following shooting at Merrimac restaurant

A 23-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder following a dramatic shooting outside a Gold Coast restaurant earlier this month.

At around 3.40pm on December 6, the young man is accused of pulling up beside another vehicle outside Mike’s Kitchen in Merrimac and shooting through the door.

24-year-old former Big Brother contestant, Sam Wallace, was sitting in the passengers seat of that vehicle and suffered gunshot wounds to his leg.

His injuries were non-life threatening and he has since been released from hospital.

The alleged shooter fled the scene and had been on the run until now.

A 23-year-old Pacific Pines man has been charged with two counts of attempted murder and one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm, burglary, acts intended to maim, threatening violence, common assault and going armed so as to cause fear.

He has been remanded in custody and expected to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on January 19.
