Man charged over horrific cricket bat assault on woman in Sydney’s CBD

A man has finally been arrested and charged after a woman was horrifically attacked with a cricket bat in Sydney’s CBD 11 years ago.

The sickening assault occurred just after 9.45pm on Saturday 14 January 2006.

Police said the woman was part of a group who had left a work function in the city and were in Martin Place playing cricket when they were approached by three men.

An altercation broke out and as the woman was running from the scene she was hit by the cricket bat, suffering serious facial fractures and injuries which required plastic surgery.

Investigations have been ongoing ever since and as a result of inquiries, police yesterday arrested a 30-year-old man at Surry Hills.

He was charged with maliciously inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent and is due to appear in Central Local Court today.
