Man charged over horror case of domestic violence in Queensland

A Queensland man has been charged after allegedly torturing a woman and threatening two children while holding them hostage inside a house near Cairns.

The terrifying ordeal took place in a house at Watsonville, near Atherton, in the state’s Tablelands Region last Thursday, 19 May but wasn’t reported to police until the following Tuesday.

It’s alleged an altercation erupted between the 43-year-old man and a woman inside the house, before the man took her and two children hostage.

The man allegedly choked and brutally assaulted the woman, leaving her with multiple injuries, before threatening the kids.

After receiving the shocking reports, police moved swiftly and arrested the 43-year-old.

He has since been charged with a long list of serious offences, including three counts each of torture, deprivation of liberty and threatening violence and one count each of choking, assault occasioning bodily harm while armed and assault occasioning bodily harm.

He is scheduled to appear before the Mareeba Magistrates Court tomorrow.

Police confirmed the man and women are known to each other.
