Man charged after loaded gun found at Mermaid Beach

A man has been charged after being found in possession of a loaded firearm at Mermaid Beach in the early hours of this morning.

Police say that around  1.30am police were called to Seashell Avenue in relation to a disturbance.

Whilst police were talking with a man on an unrelated matter, they discovered he was in possession of a hand gun.

A 25-year-old Sippy Downs man, believed to be a member of the Nomads Outlaw Motorcycle Gang, has been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, tainted property and fail to appear.

He is expected to appear at the Southport Magistrates Court today.
