Man charged after making threats outside Sydney Opera House

A young man has been charged after allegedly making threats outside the Sydney Opera House yesterday.

The 18-year-old was arrested by police after Opera House security were alerted to a man ‘acting suspiciously’ in the forecourt around 11.20am.

The man’s backpack was seized and is currently undergoing forensic examination.

He was interviewed and charged overnight with threatening to destroy or damage property.

Officers from the NSW Police Terrorism Investigations Squad have also commenced an investigation and carried out a search warrant at the man’s home in Narwee, seizing a number of items.

Police are however, reassuring the community that there is no ongoing threat.

The teen is due to face Central Local Court today.
