Man charged with being member of terrorist organisation in Sydney

A man has been arrested and charged with being a member of a terrorist organisation in Sydney.

The 38-year-old man was arrested during police raids in the city’s north yesterday.

It will be alleged in court that the man was a member of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).


He was subsequently charged with being a member of a terrorist organisation, contrary to section 102.3 of the Criminal Code Act 1995 (Cth).

The 38-year-old man faces a maximum 10 years in jail if convicted.

He was remanded in custody to appear in Parramatta Local Court via video link today.

The AFP stressed there was no current or impending threat of a terrorist attack on Australian soil arising from the investigation.
