Man charged with murder after allegedly stabbing woman in the throat

A MAN has been charged with murder after allegedly stabbing a woman to death at a house in far north Queensland.

The 29-year-old man is accused of murdering the 35-year-old woman at a residence in Kowanyama, on the Gulf of Carpentaria side of the Cape York Peninsula.

Police said the woman was stabbed in the neck inside the Pindi Street home around 12.30am on Saturday.

Sadly, despite receiving medical treatment at the scene, the woman died before she could be taken to hospital.

In a statement on Sunday, police confirmed the 29-year-old man had been arrested and charged with her murder.

He is expected to front Cairns Magistrates Court tomorrow, November 20.

The relationship between the pair is not known.
