Man charged over alleged sexual assault, murder of baby

A NSW man has been charged with sexual assault and murder following the death of a three-month-old baby girl.

The 24-year-old was arrested by detectives at a home in Maitland yesterday.

He was taken to Maitland Police Station where he was charged with murder and sexual intercourse with child under age of 10 years.

It comes after police established a special strike force four months ago, to investigate how the infant died.

Emergency services were called to a unit on Fowler Street at Hamilton South in Newcastle on August 4, after the baby girl was discovered unresponsive.

She was treated at the scene before being rushed to John Hunter Hospital, where she passed away.

The man was refused bail to appear at Maitland Local Court today.

I so wish the death penalty was still in force. Baby rape was common in some countries such as South Africa where it was thought to be a cure for AIDS. But to do it to a 3 month old who must have experienced horrific pain and torture is hard to imagine. If he is guilty, I would have no hesitation in killing him…very slowly to makse him suffer as his life ebbed away.

Put him in Gen Pop in jail not protective custody. They will distribute their own justice
