Woman allegedly pushed up against tree, assaulted by stranger

A man has been charged after allegedly sexually assaulting a woman in Fortitude Valley last month.

The alleged attack happened around 2.20pm on October 27, as the woman was walking along Harcourt Street between Brunswick and James Streets.

Police say the man allegedly pushed the woman up against a tree and assaulted her.

The woman managed to push the man away and run to a nearby convenience store where she called for help.

Following a major public appeal yesterday, a 42-year-old man was taken into custody by detectives overnight.

The man, from Redbank Plains, has been charged with sexual assault and unlawful stalking.

He was denied police bail and is due to appear in Ipswich Magistrates Court today.
