Man charged over brazen robbery which saw worker ‘pistol whipped’

A MAN has been charged over the brazen daylight robbery of a jewellery store in Ashmore last week, which saw a female worker hit across the face with a gun.

Two men armed with a gun and hammer smashed their way into the Ashmore Plaza store on Cotlew Street around 3pm last Wednesday.

One man entered the store and made demands for jewellery, while the second man held people outside at gunpoint.

The pair, who were wearing masks and dark clothing, managed to get away with a significant amount of jewellery.

A manhunt has been ongoing ever since, with detectives raiding a number of homes in Marsden, Hillcrest and Shailer Park on Sunday.

A 25-year-old man was arrested at the Hillcrest property and charged over the violent heist.

He was also charged with the armed robbery of two second-hand dealers at Stones Corner and Southport in November and December.

The man’s been remanded in custody to appear in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on January 22.

Investigations continue.
