A man has been charged over a horrific crash on the Gold Coast that claimed the life of a 53-year-old man.
Merrimac local Craig Ward died after a ladder fell from a ute on the M1 on November 2 last year, causing a massive pile-up that closed the highway for several hours.
Mr Ward, who was riding a motorbike at the time of the incident, was forced to take evasive action and was struck by another vehicle in the process, killing him instantly.

On Thursday, Queensland Police confirmed the driver of the ute was charged with one count of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death.
The 40-year-old Burleigh Heads man is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on May 5.
