Man charged over joyride in stolen fire truck

A MAN has been arrested and charged after allegedly stealing a rural fire truck and taking it on a joyride in country New South Wales.

The 19-year-old allegedly broke into a rural fire station on Baradine Road at Pine Grove, 350km west of Tamworth in the state’s north, about 12:30 am on Wednesday and stole a marked fire brigade tanker.

The man allegedly drove the fire truck west to Quambone, 100km away, where he was spotted by a member of the public later that morning, acting suspiciously near the stolen truck on Cooma Street.


Following inquiries, officers from the Orana Mid Western Police District arrested the 19-year-old at a home on Cooma Street just after midday.

He was taken to Coonamble Police Station where he was formally charged with break and enter, steal motor vehicle, damage property by fire and drive motor vehicle during disqualification period.

An examination of the vehicle showed the front passenger seat suffered fire damage whilst stolen.

The 19-year-old was remanded in custody overnight and due to appear before Dubbo Local Court today.
