Man charged over spate of high-rise burglaries on the Gold Coast

A MAN has finally been arrested after going on a crime spree which saw him allegedly break into dozens of high rise apartments on the Gold Coast through unlocked balcony doors.

The 32-year-old is accused of scaling around 40 high rise complexes in Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach, Burleigh Heads, Southport, Biggera Waters, Burleigh Heads, Golden Beach, Maroochydore and Alexandra Headland over the past two months.

He allegedly stole cash, wallets and other items and made various purchases using the stolen bank cards, police say.


The man was tracked down and taken into custody by detectives at Miami over the weekend.

He has since been charged with 49 counts of burglary, 16 counts of fraud, two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, one count of stealing and one of entering a premises.

He is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court this morning.

Police say investigations are continuing.
