Man charged over suspicious GC balcony fall, victim ‘critical’

A person has been charged after a man fell from a high-rise balcony in Surfers Paradise this morning.

The 38-year-old victim plunged six floors from an Orchid Avenue apartment building at around 6.45am.


He suffered life-threatening injuries and was rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital where myGC understands he has since undergone emergency surgery.

Police say he remains in a critical condition.

A second 39-year-old man who police say resides at the Orchid Ave apartment was arrested a few hours after the incident and has since been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm.

Earlier today, a source close to the investigation told myGC it was believed the victim had been thrown over the railings by a man who fled the scene.

There are further unconfirmed reports an eight-month-old baby was found left behind in the apartment.

Police are yet to confirm or deny these reports.

Detectives have spoken to a number of people in relation to the incident and are appealing for anyone who was in the Orchid Avenue entertainment precinct between 5:00am and 6:45am this morning to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
